  • My 2011 calendar...

    My 2011 calendar...
    Calendar

This is a little something I made for a giggle & for you.

I'm hoping that I'll give Pickering (mine's safe for work folks - I promise) a run for his money & grace the back of toilet doors globally...nationally...locally...ok at least at Claire, Christie & Shazza's places because they encouraged me to take on this project in the first place.

I've been tinkering away on this for a couple of months...since you first got a laugh out of my noticing & beret shots. All crafty "disguises" have been fashioned by me, some especially for the project & some were just loitering about the house in various states of completion.

I dragged the little guy in to check out my "folio". He watched in horror as I flicked through the images & then we had this conversation...

Little guy: "Mum, this is terrible. Nobody is going to want this."
    Me: "It's free buddy."
Little guy: "Even then Mum. Only your friends will look at it, because they'll feel sorry for you."

I'm confident that anyone who reads here regularly will enjoy the calendar & take it in the spirit in which it's intended. For any new-to-me folk who are saying to themselves "This girl's got a touch of the Warren Beattys about her." - well, there's something in there for you too. x

A very happy weekend to you all.

  • Perpetual Knitting Calendar...

    Perpetual Knitting Calendar...
    Knitting Calendar

There were lots of questions about the knitting calendar when I posted an image recently.

I purchased mine from Sunspun in Canterbury but I've found them online:

    at amazon
    at book depository

I'm going to purchase the crochet one as well because the knitting one has been such an excellent resource.

    at amazon
    at book depository

    Happy shopping.

PS: Thanks for appreciating flock clock. You'll be pleased to know that the little guy has had no trouble getting to sleep.

  • Advent...

    Advent...

I've seen some really lovely advent calendars around:

    elsie marley
    maya*made
& whipup have featured some lovely links

This is our advent calendar - ten decorations/days down.

Simple but super exciting for whoever is the colourer for each day & pretty effective.

  • The magic doorway...

    The magic doorway...
    Magic 1278

The door at Auntie Pat's is big & heavy.

I knock - a little melodious knock. "Come in", I hear. I think how cool it is that my eighty something Great Aunt is happy to have her door unlocked.

    I let myself in.

Auntie Pat is all organised and ready for our knitting date. The radio is tuned to Magic 1278 and her current knitting project is laid out on the dining table.

I'm offered a cuppa and say yes to a cup of tea. Once the tea is made we settle ourselves at the table. Auntie Pat examines my homework. She's very happy with the way I'm knitting. She runs her fingers over my work and says softly "Mmm, yes, you're going to be a beautiful knitter Koo". I feel well pleased with this. I like to be good at stuff.

I've brought along the pattern as well as my 365 knitting stitches desk calendar. I hand the pattern over to Auntie Pat & ask ernestly if I should begin at January 1st or maybe today's date? "No", Auntie Pat says firmly. "Close that book." I do. "Right, now just open it up and work on whatever pattern it throws up." I do exactly that and open the book at the diagonal rib. Auntie Pat is pleased and tells me to get started.

I cast on using my thumb and Auntie Pat begins reading. We sit together in an easy silence, knitting and reading. "Islands in the stream" comes on the radio and I smile to myself. I don't think I've heard that song since 1987. I hum along happily.

Every now and then Auntie Pat offers a "interesting" or "hmmm, clever".

Very quickly the two hours is up. I pack my things and say my thank yous and goodbyes at the door. Once I start the car I'm tempted to tune the radio to 1278 but decide to save the Magic for Tuesdays with Auntie Pat.

  • More of 2011...

    More of 2011...
    Stitched by me

Mucho excitement. We will be the most organised house in Melbourne next year...ahem.

The piece I stitched (which now resides with Rita in mini-quilt form) is on the cover of the Notebook diary for 2011.

The floral spray was taken from a vintage pillow case & then stitched by me (under the influence of Ike Rosen).

I will be gifting these for Christmas...mothers, sisters, aunties...look out.

PS: A big giant thank you to all the lovely folk who left me gorgeous comments on the calendar post. I had such a great time making it & utterly thrilled that so many of you enjoyed it too. x
