Eeek - The Reverse Art Truck is even more exciting than Op Shopping. Just look at all the good stuff I picked up. I've got some notes over on Flickr if you want a closer look.
Some days it's not worth the drive but ... yay hooray I was lucky this trip.
I am pretty good at recycling. We reduce, reuse & recycle wherever possible.
Re-crafted, repurposed, recreated & reverse art is my greatest crafty pleasure.
I prefer to make stuff from things that have had a previous life. I source my craft materials from: "rubbish" from our daily life, op shops & reverse art.
This is my recrafted toadstool pincushion - made entirely from "waste" products/materials. I made it last Monday at Brown Owls.
But I've officially caught the Christmas bug. I blame this girl for her constant stream of Christmassy goodness. Every time I hit "next" there's another bit of viral Christmas cheer.
The trees are up & the 2009 decorations were purchased from Mikes & made by Emerge - the kids love them & they are hanging front & centre on each tree.
I've had a crack at making some decorations of my own using wooden discs I purchased from Reverse Art & embroidery floss. I think my favourite is the tree.
I needed some new cards to take with me to Mathilda's Market this weekend. Apart from the last minute factor I do like to do these things myself anyway.
I'm very pleased with my new kmoo cards.
I've used the beautiful image that this lovely girl took and printed it onto Dimensions Paint Sample cards. These genuinely are recreated - I didn't just go & swipe them from my local 3D store. I purchased them from Reverse Art Truck.
Maybe "white icing" has been renamed/retinted. I think it's a good name for a paint colour myself...
-excellent stackable "cocktail" glasses for buttons - picked up at reverse art truck -MP3 player for the rolls royce music boxes -gorgeous op shopped minty printed linen -music boxes to finish off -my "filing" system for tutes by me & others -container of bias tape
Pop in and add your link if you are playing along this week.
These are the table centre pieces from Friday night.
I was thrilled with the way these looked. The goal posts were picked up for a song at Reverse Art & the little football sponges were picked up at the Supply & Demand closing down sale for 50 cents each!
The "Ladies' Lounge" was also a hit & did look very pretty...or as pretty as it could with the zero budget & the fact that it was located at one end of a basketball court. It's kind of hard to create ambience in such a venue. The lighting was also a factor...sigh.
There's a lot I should/would/could be doing at the moment. I've got a fair bit on my plate but true to form I'm working on something new (& a bit cute). If it works I'll be making them for Christmas presents for small folk.
This foam was picked up at reverse art a few weeks back. I've hacked into it & this is what remains.
I reckon I've got this year's Christmas gift sussed.
Embroidered & stitched entirely by hand so it's a good "kit craft" for taking along to kids activities.
I've used a couple of little stick on magnets (which I picked up at Reverse Art last time I was there) to make sure my handwork stays with the book & not on the tram.
7 OCTOBER - EDITED TO ADD: I've just posted the tutorial here. Thanks all for your interest.
I had originally purchased only 1 tube to make a toy box for the smallest...it kicked around the floor of the craft room for a while & I'd done nothing with it.
All the while I'd been enjoying posts from this tumblr.
http://bookshelves.tumblr.com/
...then I got to thinking how they'd be wonderful as a bookshelf & that's what I've done. I've left the tubes natural & just given them a bit of a sand to remove the rough edges but I think it would look lovely covered in vintage wallpaper.
The tubes are held together using the webbing I picked up at Reverse Art Truck. I've just cut to size to make straps with velcro fastenings.
The real beauty of this "shelf" is it's versatility. You could put them together in any configuration you like & possibly incorporate other pieces of furniture to make interesting shapes.
Once we are in the new place I plan to hang a couple of them on the wall.
Don't you think they would look fabulous painted white & jam packed full of brightly coloured yarn?
You must have a look at this amazing set also constructed from sono tubes (with how to).
Edit 27 September :: I just visited Style Spion (one of the sites that links to this post) & followed links to much flasher & more designery type shelves similar to these. You can see them here & here. Just goes to show...nothing is original & girls who just like to make stuff can have designer type ideas too.
