    Simple Fabric Printing...

Gemma ran a fantastic session at Brown Owls last night.

I was mixing up a fixative cocktail or two behind the bar! (so I didn't take any pics of the wonderful printing everyone did). But Pip has some fabulous pics up here.

Everyone was busy stamping up a storm. There was a lovely creative buzz, everyone sharing ideas & skills. What a fabulous night.

My favourite print of the night?

Evie made a wonderful abstract stamp & then repeated the design to create this gorgeous singlet.

Footnote: Challenge is good for you!

    The Melbourne Museum of Printing...

Was the best excursion ever (& that includes the zoo when I was in Prep)!

I loved every minute of the tour & demonstration.

My dad owned a printing business when we were kids & the smells were just like I remember the factory at Commercial Road.

Gem & Pip have some wonderful photos.

    About a boy...

Last year I went to the Melbourne Museum of Printing excursion which these girls organised.

It was such a fabulous & informative day out & I've been busting to have a crack at some "homebrand hack" letterpress ever since.

This is what I'm printing. Of course I don't have the right ink & can't remember what I need...

    Lino cut printed...

The lino cut printed onto a felt covered notebook. A gentle reminder to myself ... don't be afraid to fail.

I need to work on the ink/paint/fabric medium thing. I'm not sure about the consistency of the paint. The first few were OK & then I wonder if the paint started to dry out too much? Any tips on lino printing onto fabric would be greatly appreciated.

A few people have asked about the lino. I used lino from the art supply shop to carve my block. I think that if you're having a crack for the first time then it might be better to start with the easy carve blocks. Easy carve blocks are basically a large eraser. They are easier to cut into & easier to manage/print with after the carving is done.

    On my desk...

You can see the standard Kirst mess is starting to creep back in.

Ah well, it was nice while it lasted.

I've been working a lot more than usual so I've dropped the ball a bit on the blog front...sorry. I'm planning on popping in for a cuppa tonight. Put the kettle on will you?

Waiting for me when I get home from work:

    - Research
    - Something to make me laugh
    - The big girl's polaroid diary from 2001
    - Mess left over from our printing date

    On my desk...the players

Desks of the week: crafter, arter & maker.

    My creative space...

Today is a perfect Autumn day. The light in the pool room is fabulous & I'm looking forward to the day...post coffee.

    In myspace:
    -the good scissors
-the paper scissors (almost too blunt for paper now)
-printing stuff waiting for me to re-work the "boy" stamp
    -discarded mouse wire
-beginnings of something I'm pretty excited about
-more op shopped serviettes & hankies
-really good tin filled with pins & safety pins & paper clips - opped

Pop in & add your link if you're playing along this week.

    Ideas...

I wasn't planning on posting til this afternoon. Just popped down to check my email & found that my pants kicking mate had stopped in with a gentle nudge. What's a girl to do?

I know I've talked before about the run & ideas. It's when I get my best ideas & when I've got time to quietly mull them over & decide if, in fact, they are good ideas or just flights of exercise induced fancy.

Sooz's thoughts on ideas got me thinking a bit more & I thoroughly enjoyed the post it notes inside Pea Soup's brain (much like my own). Surely, I can't keep all those post it notes in any logical sequence. I don't run that fast but probably fast enough to lose a post it note or two. I need to devise a better plan...

...in the meantime I'm beginning another music box. It's just like the first one I made.

The coffee staining of the stash fabric is complete & the printing done too. Now I just need to get cracking on the assembly.

Truly, it's all about the little things...growing babies, ideas, & just about everything else.

I'm starting to think about Christmas...Yikes!

Early I know - but I really don't want to be making gifts on Christmas Eve this year!

I've made myself a little stamp. It's leather stitched (laced really) & then printed onto calico. I've printed 20 little "Tea" stamps.

I'll be working on the making up tomorrow.
