Teeny tiny port glass with offerings from the walk home from school.
I had a lovely evening last night at The Aviary catching up with old school mates & laughing until tears were streaming down my face. Absolutely nobody can make me laugh like those girls can. It's really good to laugh until your cheeks hurt!
I'm completely on a roll with the redwork, filling every spare moment with a few more chain or stem stitches and getting a huge amount of pleasure from the small repetative stitches.

On my desk... is posted on a Wednesday. It's just a shot of your desk & maybe a bit of banter. Let us know what you're working on or what interesting bits & pieces have crossed your desk during the week.
There is a wonderful blog here - sharing the desks & creative spaces of really clever creative folk. I only found out about this blog after the Wednesday thing began...
Our Wednesday gig is just a bit of fun.
Comment on this post if you decide to play along & I'll add you to the link list.
This list will be updated frequently so feel free to join at any time.
There is no obligation at all - post when you feel like it. Just super casual & a bit of fun.
When I chop onions I cry, I have tears streaming down my face.
To combat this problem I started wearing goggles. I look an absolute sight (I admit), but I'm much more about function than fashion. There's the added bonus of making the kids & The Date laugh.
At some stage during my goggle wearing & onion chopping I'd made a plan in my head to share my genius. I'd formulated a plan to sell these high fashion items. Of course I was going to muck around with the design & cute them up a bit.
Being the true procrastinator that I am I never did anything about it & continued to wear the goggles, and remain tear free.
A couple of weeks ago the date and I were at Shoppingtown. Walking past Matchbox I caught something pink and sunglassesish out of the corner of my eye. I knew what they were before I did the double take. Sure enough, there they were ... my onion goggles.
For a moment I felt a bit jealous. That coulda shoulda woulda been me.
Then I caught myself. The onion glasses genius actually got off their procrastinating butt and did something about it. Good on her/him.
I'm rather attached to the speedo goggles but I really think that people who make good on dreams and ideas should be rewarded. I'm going to buy a pair.
You can see the standard Kirst mess is starting to creep back in.
Ah well, it was nice while it lasted.
I've been working a lot more than usual so I've dropped the ball a bit on the blog front...sorry. I'm planning on popping in for a cuppa tonight. Put the kettle on will you?
Waiting for me when I get home from work:
- Research - Something to make me laugh - The big girl's polaroid diary from 2001 - Mess left over from our printing date
I gave myself a laugh & then thought better of offending the nearest & dearest.
I fashioned these the other day in order to please the wheat free, gluten free, no tomatoes, no capsicum, no this, no that, no the other eaters in the family. They were very well received by all but the vegetarian (but she's used to fending for herself).
It's a scorching day in and around Melbourne today so I thought some of you might appreciate these little tastes of Australian Christmas.
I just chopped up the cucumber & scooped the seeds out then topped with turkey, cranberry & brie. Delish!
The beach has totally zoned me out. As a classic speedster, always multi tasking it's a complete break & absolutely lovely.
I did just want to pop in & say...
I'm wishing you all a safe & happy holiday. May the pretty drinks be plentiful & the company delightful.
I should just warn you that I am on my 4th date made Capiroska (read double shot of vodka).
Inability to touch type making me giggle......tragic!
I love Friday - it's the trigger to exhale - friends come over to have a drink & a laugh - it's gorgeous.
I had planned to have a crack at Pip's delicious sounding curry tonight...I'd printed off the recipe & everything...then I got all involved in a bit of Brown Owlishness & instead we ate dip & cheese & a LOT of Red Rock Deli Honey Soy Chips...oh & Vodka...I'm SURE that's in the healthy food pyramid!
I'm about halfway through Jessie's album. Are we in for the long haul Bricolagelife?
Jessie is out of town again.
This makes me laugh because my dad has a farm & I reckon if he saw me hand feeding a kangaroo he'd whip that air riffle out from under the little chap's arm & shoot us both.
This is a little something I made for a giggle & for you.
I'm hoping that I'll give Pickering (mine's safe for work folks - I promise) a run for his money & grace the back of toilet doors globally...nationally...locally...ok at least at Claire, Christie & Shazza's places because they encouraged me to take on this project in the first place.
I've been tinkering away on this for a couple of months...since you first got a laugh out of my noticing & beret shots. All crafty "disguises" have been fashioned by me, some especially for the project & some were just loitering about the house in various states of completion.
I dragged the little guy in to check out my "folio". He watched in horror as I flicked through the images & then we had this conversation...
Little guy: "Mum, this is terrible. Nobody is going to want this." Me: "It's free buddy." Little guy: "Even then Mum. Only your friends will look at it, because they'll feel sorry for you."
I'm confident that anyone who reads here regularly will enjoy the calendar & take it in the spirit in which it's intended. For any new-to-me folk who are saying to themselves "This girl's got a touch of the Warren Beattys about her." - well, there's something in there for you too. x
The bell rings…another term over. I meet Bind and Cal in the playground and we walk home together. We’re chatting excitedly about our impeding road trip and what adventures we’re going to have.
We stop briefly to tease the mad, barking Rottweiler and snap imaginary pictures of his nether regions as he leaps against the gate. We laugh crazily until we get to the lane.
The banter all the way home is constant. Pauses are quickly filled with embellished and misremembered stories of past trips.
We’ve had our bags packed for a week and they are waiting in the hall. Mum will load them into the car tonight so we can get away early in the morning.
The TV is flicked on and the others flop on the couch, it's been a long term. They are all long terms when you're a primary school kid.
I’ve made my way over to our wall map of Victoria and am tracing our previous road trips with my finger.
As I trace the texta lines we’ve drawn in, I remember. I remember stalactites and stalagmites, gold mines, museums, long walks, scrap books, musty smelling hotels and cold toast breakfasts.
I wonder what we might discover about our state and each other on this trip.
We don’t know where we are headed. Mum will just drive, turning when she sees something that captures her imagination.
Mum wakes us all early. The car is packed with our luggage and we’ve all got our pillows in the car. I’m not sure why, we never sleep. The pillows cause us to niggle for space and draw imaginary yours/mine lines on the velour car seat.
When you’re one of three kids there always seems to be an issue about not sitting in the middle. There’s a lot of negotiation going on about who’s going to sit where and for how long. I’m thankful that Mum’s still inside because if she hears all this carry on she might just decide it’s all too hard.
Before the car pulls out of the driveway we’re all sporting corky bruises on our thighs and we know it’s going to be a long drive.
I understand that the emoticon is a necessity of faceless communication (& I've been known to throw in a :) myself every now & then but I admit, I'm not a fan.
I've got a fabulous book filled with gold & one of the pieces of advice is...
Don't use emoticons ;-) they're just annoying
BUT I reckon when you've got your tongue planted firmly in your cheek it's probably OK. I made myself laugh if nothing else. 8-) = wearing glasses B-) = wearing cool shades
My research did lead me to these characters of note. One a super model & the other a super woman:
I responded to a request from Kami this week & it really got me thinking & then I found this...
The value of the collective and the community in the continuation of successful practice
Presenter: Carole Hanson Epp Verge: 11th National Ceramics Conference Brisbane, Australia 10th - 14th July 2006
"I have found that working within a community of artists or collaboratively can be a means, in particular for emerging artists, to gain valuable experience, access to opportunities and an awareness and understanding of the role of the community in support and critique of ones work. When we leave our academic environments to set out on our own as craftspeople we are still in need of a community of like-minded, inspirational, challenging and active producing artists around us. Academic programs can instill such skills as self-criticism and personal motivation, but it is through the community that we evolve and build upon that foundation...
...Only through active involvement will we as practitioners see the growth and development of these organizations and the artists they support. Attendance at events, membership, financial support, volunteering of skills and time, are all means towards common goals."

What does this mean for me? How can I nurture the relationships I've been building with this craft community & particularly the Melbourne girls?
Support the community in which you hope to prosper whether financially or otherwise. Get around - have a chat.
If you enjoy a blog, admire a piece (or collection) of work, got inspired, had a laugh, shed a tear, made your day, touched your heart - support them!
Buy their work, leave comments, shop in their store, celebrate their wins & take an active interest in their journey.
Everyone has to buy stuff sometime. Before you head to a nameless, faceless, bigger than Ben Hur store owned & run by a man in a suit you'll never see - consider buying from someone you "know" & who you KNOW will appreciate it.
Put back what you take out and then some.
I'm trying really hard to live this rather than just think it. A community is a powerful & wonderful thing. So to all who take the time to post, make, create, share or care - thank you.
This post has been rather more deep than my usual drivel so I'm going to finish on a totally tacky low note...
Mike Brady in the Brady Bunch Movie: Alone, we can only move buckets. But if we work together, we can drain rivers.
I thoroughly enjoyed Mark Booker. It made me laugh & it made me cry. I had to review a few parts because I kept drifting off & forgetting where I was up too. Consequently, he was really overdue.
I've made my apologies & paid the fine at the Library.
Now he's on his way to the little person who has him on reserve.
Reserve your copy for next year. Highly recommended.
for a Kootoyoo Slide Night. I hope you'll all come along.
I'm stringing up an old sheet in the good room & lighting a fire. There will be fondue & a cask of Mozelle - you can even smoke your Alpine ciggies in the house!
I've only been to a couple of Slide Nights in my life (both when I was very young) but I remember them well. Even the boring bits are fun when shared with a good friend & a laugh!
I love holidays. The kids break up from school today - yay hooray! Looking forward to a couple of relaxed and lovely weeks. We've made a few plans & we are really going to enjoy this break.
That means things will be a bit quiet on the blog front ... I'll be sharing holiday slides each day though. I won't be talking much but that doesn't mean you all can't share a giggle & a glass of wine.
You are welcome to bring a plate of classic 70s fare, some slides of your own & a beanbag.
...oooh I think I'll have chicken liver pate as well! 41
