  • You can't win 'em all...

    You can't win 'em all...

I've picked up a few bits & pieces at the local Oppies. My favourite finds: Golden Book read along records, more stackers for the collection & gorgeous painted glasses.

The Date & I found a STUNNING red & white vinyl lounge suite at The Mill. I've never seen anything as gorgeous. All the pieces were there: two reclining armchairs, two footstools & a three seater sofa/divan. Unbelievable condition, so cool & now making its way to the super stylish home of someone else! Crikey - you've got to be quick!

Oh well... we would have had trouble fitting it in the car.

  • Celebrating...

    Celebrating...

The Point Lonsdale Surf Lifesavers got up early today. By the time I got to the club (around 6am) they were packing up their gear. When I hit the front beach (6:10am), the street was closed & they were starting to set up.

It's a great event & this year it was slicker than ever before. I'm not sure the pretty female lifesavers unzipping suits were entirely necessary...

  • Mini Golf...

    Mini Golf...

The Date's a golfer - he loves it & he's good at it.

The Small's are mini golfers - they love it.

The annual Mini Golf Tournament resulted in a draw between The Date & me - quite unbelievable but I'll be dining out on it for at least the next ten years.

  • Seeing in the New Year...

    Seeing in the New Year...

Pretty drinks, games, brothers, sisters, parents, children, laughter.

We're off to a pretty good start I think.

  • Now you see me...

    Now you see me...

    now you don't.

They spent lots of time standing on their feet & lots of time being dumped!

The dial up thing means reply is tricky... I've just created a transparent gif from the film strip image & layered it over the photos.

  • Making me smile...

    Making me smile...

sweet girl with curls singing, skipping, leaping & squealing with delight.

  • Do you think more clearly...

    Do you think more clearly...

    when you're upside down?

I'm pretty sure that the big girl does. She spends most of her life upside down.

  • Making Memories...

    Making Memories...

The date & I talk a lot about the making of a memory.

I have so many wonderful childhood memories & we really want that for the smalls.

We've come to the conclusion that the very best memories of childhood holidays were not the "once in a lifetime" trips. It's more about the ritual type of holiday. The annual event...

    the packing
    the pilgrimage
    the daily routine

These annual holidays & therefore the memories seem to merge into one event. I can't remember on exactly which Murray River holiday I learnt to slalom, or which year I burnt my feet on the parched earth, or when it was that we purchased garbage pail lollies from the milk bar. I've no idea which year we invented thong skiing, I'm pretty sketchy on the details of when the Block Ice Manufacturer closed, & how many years it rained.

In my memory... every day was 40 degrees, the sprinklers were always going, the meals at the golf club were in a class of their own, cartwheels on the putting green were always perfect, I never got burnt, the shrimps stayed away & a soft heavenly glow settled over our holiday rental belonging to Bee Jones.

Part of what has helped cement these memories is the footage shot on our Super 8 camera.

My Dad had these put onto video about 15 years ago...this confirmed that our holidays were nothing short of perfect (I'm skiing to Chariots of Fire!).

I'm planning to share some holiday snaps "Super 8" style. Feel free to switch off if you like...

OR maybe you've got some great holiday memories to share.
