Despite feeling that I'm totally over brown I'm keeping going with the granny squares. If you're a lover/maker of granny squares you might like to join in with this.
Also square...
Lovely fabric picked up at the Ocean Grove Op Shop. I got a lovely big bag full of goodness for next to nix. Out of town Op Shops really are the best.
Thanks for playing nicely while I was away last week.
Pop in and add your link if you're playing along this week.
This fabric picked up at the Op Shop tickles my fancy. I'm old enough to remember Commodore 64 & Apple IIe.
Just look at that seam joining the panels - can you even see it? You might need your specs. Clearly I'm not a sewing geek - I couldn't be fagged with that effort.
On the seam front...have you been following Liesl's Seamalong. She's super good.
Yesterday while I was waiting for all the muffins to cook I spent some more time in the pool room trying to sort everything out.
I love to fold. The pillowcase collection looks magnificent but the other set of shelves is looking a bit sad.
I've seen a bit of sorting & folding going on around the place & this morning I popped in here. It made me want to rush out & buy lots & lots of lovely new fabric. (contradiction?) Then I remembered...I don't do that.
So, I got to work with the vintage sheeting. This little exercise required the use of my maths brain as well as my very rusty dramatic skills...OK so I totally got stage fright & the video is pretty awful but I had fun with the logistics. I set myself up a ghetto rig for the flip & away I went.
How to fold a fat quarter...the video.
This may or may not be an original way to fold squares of fabric. I was trying to hunt down a folding technique last year as I seemed to remember this sort of thing from Patchwork House when I learnt to quilt (about a million years ago). But Mr Google turned up nothing. I combined my memory of nappy folding (which I also loved) with my idea of how I remembered the fat quarters at Patchwork House.
Formula: width of shelf (w) x 4 is the size to cut your squares.
So...if you're a collector of fabric & your shelves are six inches wide you need to be buying 24 inches of fabric to make them fit snuggly on your shelf.
Yesterday I went to Mixtogether organised by the blogger formerly currently known as 62cherry & Nichola.
It was a lovely afternoon held at Amitie - Yikes that place is exquisite! If you're anywhere even remotely close to Amitie (or even 1/2 a days drive) get your butt over there - you won't regret it.
I was totally spoilt - I got the bag full of handmade loveliness made by the gorgeous KittyB. It was full to overflowing with beautiful, magnificently crafted goodness. My absolute favourite is the neck warmer - it's stunning Kitty I love it.
We worked on our signature blocks for the Mixtogether quilt & drank & ate. It was a gorgeous afternoon. Thanks girls.
So I know I've raved on about the new beginnings obsession about a million times before. I just love the "honeymoon faze" of a project. It's interesting...once mastered it loses its appeal.
The spark, discovery, thrill & ultimate satisfaction are what it's all about.
It's lucky I met the date when I did because with this current obsession he probably wouldn't have lasted & I can tell you he's a keeper!
I've had 5 new beginnings this week. Any craft project that involves a date with Allan Robison fabric is bound to be a winner.
Vintage sheets - thrifted & came wrapped in plastic!
I overshot my exit on the freeway coming home from my favourite shop. I was on autopilot driving out to the gym. My route home took me past an out-of-the-loop Op Shop I haven't stopped in at for a while.
These sheets are so gorgeous & I love that I have them in three colours. I've got no current plans for them but I like knowing they are in the cupboard just in case I have a cute emergency.
I didn't own these sheets as a kid - I really wanted them but Mum liked things a bit more understated.
Still feeling a little fragile...but well enough to nick into a couple of op shops on my taxi driving duty. I try to turn any & all courier type jobs into a little Thrifted Tuesday goodness. You'll have to excuse the bad light but if you are in Melbourne you'd know it's a gloomy afternoon.
More pillow cases for the collection.
I heart a storage solution.
Beautiful brown sheets. It's all about the brown lately.
I'm on the fly - I've got a hot date with some crafty chicks tonight.
On my desk...
cookies, kittens & owlish bits.
Any new On my deskers? Let me know if you're playing too.
Update: lots & lots of lovely bloggers are playing. I'm out all day - will update the link list tonight. Thanks for playing & thanks to Angela for being my crafty kick in the pants.
This gorgeous fabric was purchased at my best Op Shop recently. It's really special & I want to do it justice. I've got a few ideas kicking around but nothing firm yet.
We had a fantastic time at Brown Owls last night. The clubhouse was jam packed with lovely crafty souls stitching away on their uniform panels. I'm really looking forward to next week. You can see all the stitching goodness over at our Flickr group.
Finally - a little note about friends...You know - you think you've got enough friends & in this busy life it can be pretty hard to keep up with the friends you've got. Then someone extra specially good comes along & you find there really is time & room in your heart for someone truly good & golden. Mmmm - it's like babies really - there is always enough love. Thank you.
It really is quite incredible - I never leave empty handed. Check out the goodness I picked up today.
The brown & white fabric is "Diagonal" by Austfield & there is 4 metres of it!
I was really excited when I spotted the little brown suitcase....BUT....when I saw what was inside I did my little Op Shop dance & squealed in delight. If you want to see what was inside you need to visit here or the Thrifted Tuesday Flickr. Tease aren't I?
I also picked up this gorgeous fabric. It smells like a Nanna's linen press...I love mothballs. The selvedge & the internet haven't helped me out "Bumble Bee pattern repeat 61cm".
Today I was given this pack of Japanese Fabric scraps.
My mother in law gave it to me to say thanks for rigging up a DIY grey water system at her beach house. The washing machine now flows out onto the native garden and the bath has a garden hose syphon.
This little gift in the middle of a craft-dry couple of weeks was a lovely surprise & so thoughtful. Gifts given for no reason are the very best kind don't you think?
